 Dave's Fishroom

"I would like to invite you on a visit of my fish and tanks. Currently all the tanks are in the house. I have plans for a dedicated fishroom outside in a separate structure in the next year or so! I take pride in my tanks, as we all do, and hope you enjoy looking around. Currently I have 7 tanks, all of them Africans. I have been in the hobby since I was 16 years old. I have met some great people who share my passion over the years, but nothing like the fellowship I enjoy with the members of the HCCC! Thanks for looking".

This is my main stand that I built. Since it is in my living room it had to be semi nice to have my wife, Melinda, go along with this idea. It took me a bunch of weekends to build the stand, but I am pretty happy with the outcome and people seem to enjoy it when they come over. For more info on the stand and how I built it there are a couple of articles in past Lateral Line issues. On the right side of the stand is my HCCC spawning award. Hopefully there will be many more of those in my future!

This is a 20 gallon long that currently houses 9 Pundamilia nyererei "Igombe Island". The nyererei are among my favorite groups of fish and hope to collect more variants soon. The tank is filtered with an Emperor 280.

This is my 55 gallon tank. It currently has Haplochromis sp "Kenya Gold", Haplochromis "All Red", and Mbipi lutea as it's residents. It is a pretty busy tank as you can imagine. It also houses 2 Synodontis greshoffi, with plans to add some more of these beautiful catfish. This tank has an Aquaclear 300 and Emperor 400 for filtration. Also water movement is supplied by a large powerhead with sponge filter attachment.

This tank is a 30 gallon long. Current inhabitants include Haplochromis sp. "Salmon" Hippo Point and Coptodon cf. deckerti. I love this size tank and plan to purchase some more in the future. It is filtered with an Emperor 280 and an Aquaclear 200. I really like the Coptodon's and they should contrast nicely with the Hippo Point Salmon when everyone matures a bit. I am quite surprised but there is also a bunch of juvenile Julidochromis dickfeldi "Midnight Blue" in here and they do quite well among the cracks and holes in the rocks. Nobody picks on them and they are growing nicely.

This is a 20 gallon high tank that house a group of Pundamilia igneopinnis. This is also one of my favorites. A gorgeous fish that should be in more people's tanks. Filtration is handled here with an Aquaclear 100(I think) and a small powerhead for surface movement.

This little 10 gallon tank contains a group of 5 Neolamprologus multifasciatus. I love shell dwellers and wish I had more of them. I have considered building another stand for a bunch of 20 longs to house various shell dwellers. These fish have so much character. I try not to but there always seems to be a basket hanging in the tank as well with some fry. Currently this one has a butch of lutea fry in it.

This is a picture of one of my dominant Mbipi lutea males. They are great fish. He struts his stuff in full color constantly.

Here is a male Pundamilia igneopinnis. You can see some blue in his dorsal and the orange in his other fins.

One of my male Haplochromis sp. "Kenya Gold" . A very mild mannered fish from Lake Victoria that only gets about 3-3.5" in the aquarium.

A Coptodon cf. deckerti from Lake Ejagham in Cameroon. The fish is a gunmetal grey right now and when matures becomes a wonderful black color with yellow fins.

A multi guarding his turf. The 5 fish have about 20 shells to choose from so they pretty much leave each other alone.

A Neolamprologus pulcher who resides in a 29 gallon tank with some Steatocranus casuarius. He really doesn't belong anywhere but he is my wife's favorite fish, so he isn't going anywhere soon!!
